Construction

Ribbed collar (rib knit) at the base: the knit tightens to close around the neck, cut draughts and keep the nape warm.
Openwork zone over the mouth: a more open mesh that improves breathing and limits condensation under the mask.
Reversible and modular: wear it either way, or roll it up as a simple beanie when the mask isn't needed.
Knitted, not printed: the pattern is built into the knit, so it won't flake and patinas with the piece.

Care

Cold wash, 30°C maximum, gentle cycle or by hand.
Turn the balaclava inside out before washing to limit pilling.
No tumble drying: heat shrinks cotton.
Dry flat, away from sunlight, reshaping the piece.
No bleach. Gentle ironing if needed, avoiding the motifs.

A natural, dense, legible material, chosen to avoid synthetics and keep a soft hand.

Jacquard knit

The pattern isn't printed: it's built into the knit, piece by piece, in Porto.

Real use

A lift-up band, a tighter mask, a long collar down the neck: the cut follows the cold and the gesture.

Edition · first series

A numbered piece.

Every balaclava in the first series is numbered by hand when it is packed, in the order the orders come in. It ships with a certificate card carrying its number, its colourway and the workshop where it was knitted, in Porto.

The first numbers go to the first orders.

The material

100% Portuguese cotton, naturally.

A balaclava is worn directly against the face and neck. Material is not a detail, so we chose Portuguese cotton for its softness, resilience and everyday simplicity.

Soft against the face

Cotton feels soft against the face and neck, so the balaclava can be worn for hours without demanding attention.

Easy to care for

A familiar material that is simple to wash and develops character with use rather than requiring complicated care.

A natural fibre

We chose a clear cotton composition to keep synthetic fibres out of the garment as much as possible.

The piece · 01

A worn memory

Skadi starts from the Selbu rose, the eight-pointed star Norwegian knitters have placed on mittens and hats since the 19th century. We didn't copy it like an archive; we brought it back onto a piece worn over the face.

The star stays on the crown and the band, where the eye lands first. The mask runs darker and tighter below. The North is there, but the balaclava belongs to today.

The piece · 02

Knitting the cold

The body is knitted in Porto in Portuguese cotton, double-thickness jacquard. The knit holds warmth without weighing on your breath, steady enough to go from a mountain pass to a cold street.

The mask sits a little tighter to cut the wind. The cotton doesn't play precious: it washes, it wears in, it takes each outing one after another.

The piece · 03

A cut for use

One fold is enough between band and mask. You lift it, you pull it down, you move on. The collar reaches down the neck and seals in warmth without choking.

We designed it to last. If the knit tires, it can be mended by hand. Nothing here is meant for the bin.
