Manifesto

To inherit is not to repeat.

Folkovar looks at old garments not as decoration, but as answers: a cut to move in, a fibre to breathe, a thickness to endure.

European workwear carries a quiet intelligence. It was designed for workshops, fields, roads, ports, mountains and long winters. Its strength comes from use.

The brand rejects empty speed. It prefers legible materials, honest volumes, useful details and an aesthetic that can age with the person who wears it.

Skadi leads the way. Three more shapes complete the collection, drawn from Nordic and Celtic traditions.

Skadi

The inaugural piece, Nordic-inspired: star motifs and Scandinavian knitting, in 100% Portuguese cotton jacquard knitted in Porto.

Morrigan

Celtic in origin: a balaclava with cable (braid) motifs, darker and more protective. Portuguese cotton.

Frosthelm

Nordic-inspired: a balaclava echoing the line of the Viking helmet. Portuguese cotton.

Caledon

Celtic in origin: a balaclava with tartan motifs, a palette of peat and heather. Portuguese cotton.

Knitting the cold.

A balaclava you keep for years comes down to little: a motif that means something, a knit that insulates without weight, and a cut that sits right.

The eight-pointed star

It is the Selbu rose, a motif from Norwegian knitting. We place it on the crown and the band, where the light catches it, before the darker mask takes over.

Portuguese cotton, double-thickness

Knitted in Porto, in dense jacquard. It keeps you warm without weight, the mask runs a little tighter against the wind, and the cotton takes its patina with use.

Undyed cotton inside

You pull it on without thinking. A single fold lifts the band or closes the mask: the walk leads, not the balaclava.

Traditions

A library still little read.

European dress traditions, from island tartans to northern knits and Slavic symbols, are a living material. Folkovar reads them again, one piece at a time, and keeps the notebook.

The eight-pointed star, a sun that hasn't finished turning

The same design shifts in tone depending on the hand that makes it: a Norwegian glove, Ukrainian embroidery, a Baltic costume. It's in those gaps that the motif becomes useful.

The Portuguese cotton knitted in Porto

Skadi isn't made of wool. It starts from a Portuguese cotton knitted near Porto, with a different idea of cold: drier, more urban, less expected.

Skadi, goddess of cold who walked before the light

The name of the first balaclava comes from a rough Norse figure: mountains, skis, chosen cold, and very little decorative softness.
